Enhanced Topology Element  Access in instant3Dhub API

Released Version: 3.8

Experience new interaction level with 3D models in instant3Dhub's latest API update. Now, you can directly access topology elements like edges, curves, and surfaces, enriching development possibilities.

What’s new?

Prior to the latest update, developers faced limitations in directly accessing topology elements through the API. This crucial feature now unlocks direct interaction with a diverse array of topology elements, including circles, planar faces, spheres, cones, curves, cylinders, and line segments. Enhanced accessibility now allows for detailed retrieval of element-specific properties such as axis, center points, radius, and length, vastly broadening the use cases that can be developed.

Typical use cases include:

  • Topology Interaction: Visualize topological elements and their properties based on Mouse Interactions like hover & click events

  • Clipping Planes Creation: Positioning clipping planes based on topological properties like axis

  • Advanced Measuring Functionality: Use Topology Elements to define your own measurement workflows (check out our new experimental Measurement API)!

How to use:

The newly introduced requestTopologyDescriptor method is a key update in our API, enabling detailed analysis of topological elements in 3D models. This method provides users with comprehensive descriptions of topology elements, facilitating more accurate modeling and analysis. For each descriptor the element-specific properties can be accessed. For additional insights into various topology descriptors, such as circles, planes, and curves, refer to the TopologyDescriptorMap in our documentation.

Growth Areas

At instant3Dhub, our topology pipeline is adept at interpreting comparable geometries across diverse file formats. This adaptability ensures a high degree of consistency in how geometries are processed and understood. While our system is designed for robust performance, there are occasional variations in results, which are more a reflection of the inherent diversity in data formats rather than limitations of the pipeline itself. For example, a CATIA file and a JT file, despite representing the same geometry, may not hold identical topological information.
